I was on a few medications for various conditions. Effexor XR for depression, Trazadone because I couldn't sleep, Relpax for migraines and the last medication added was Flexeril for fibromyalgia. Within a few days of taking the flexeril, I was driving for my job, as a pharmaceutical sales rep, and suddenly lost all feeling in my arms and legs. I was almost home and somehow made it into the driveway. By the time the ambulance got there,my body was stuck in odd posturing, tremors, and I was blacking out. Then these Atypical seizures of total body contractions. At the ER, they decided to dose me up with Ativan, insiting I had a panic attack. They decided that, because I was on Effexor XR and assumed it was for anxiety. They sent me home, with ALOT of ativan. That week I still had problems but was full of Ativan. My meds still in use, I still tried to return to work the following Monday. I didn't take the ativan b/c it made me unable to drive. And again, the seizing began. As I was rushed from the side of the road to another ER, I was still, misdiagnosed as having anxiety, because they talked to the other ER. Long story short. I did not get to go back to work. The siezures continued, the tremors, the difficulty in speech, right sided weaknes, drop foot, memory and confusion, tremors etc. I am off all the meds. It took a year to wean off of everything. I still am left with cognitive and physical disability. No more seizures. The specialists I've seen, insist I must have been a cocaine addict, or something of that nature. For some reason they can rationalize that an illegal drug can do this, but not 4 medications that are warned NOT to be used together. My symptoms are similar to someone with MS. I can't get any help, or anyone to understand the disorder I am left with. WHY? because no one in the medial community will admit that the meds were the cause. There is no rhyme or reason for things like this to happen. Every person's chemistry is different. SO why not take a look at the evidence and say, If this person did not have any neurological disorder before the meds, and suddenly did when altering the meds, then maybe something happened. .I am looking for help and answers and resources. I just want to get a better quality of life and move forward. If there is anyone else who has had this happen, and found help, I would love to hear about it. I'm seeking resources to help me change my life again. |
