International Day of Persons with Disabilities

(USA)

Sharing can be fun!

Sharing can be fun!

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Its purpose is to promote an understanding of disability issues, and to generate support for the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

A second purpose of the day is to show how society can gain from the full integration of persons with disabilities into all aspects of political, social, economic and cultual life.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is sponsored by the United Nations and was begun by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons. The program(me) was begun in 1982.

All interested communities, both governmental and private, are encouraged to promote innovative measures that focus on continued implementation of international standards related to persons with disabilities.

Organizations are further encouraged to sponsor forums, public discussions and information campaigns focusing on the ways and means being used by persons with disabilities to establish independent lifestyles, sustainable living conditions and financial security.

Brain-Injury-Online.com will join the United Nations call to showcase the many talents of persons with disabilities. The call to present the many skills, varied interests and aspirations of persons living with disabilities will be answered on this website.

On July 11, 2008, Beth and Larry Jameson, authors of Brain Injury Survivor's Guide and this website, charted a new course by opening the Brain Injury Stories section.

Visitors to Brain-Injury-Online.com will be able to share their stories of hope and inspiration and to follow the call of the United Nations. Each visitor has skills, interests and aspirations that need a voice. Beth and Larry are pleased to make that voice available.
