Brain injury stories listed on this page have been submitted by visitors to Brain Injury Online. They are written by victims of brain trauma and by caregivers. Each is unique and written from the heart of the writer. They come from all walks of life and all sections of the United States and the world.

Beth and I applaud everyone who tells their personal story. It's not only therapeutic for the writer but can also provide a great source of information for readers. Please feel free to rate the stories and add your comments. Many of these writers want to know what you're thinking.

Brain Injury Stories - Write Yours

Fish Wife - His Wife - Virginia military wife, Katrina, speaks out about her new life as a caregiver. She writes, "Everything is a command, with some hugs and kisses in between, but for the most part I am mostly caretaker and I tried so hard not to be. It's like I was the last one to really understand the memo--'hello, you're 27 and taking care of your 28 year old husband. He will not be the same, your life will not be the same. Your plans will not be the same." Click the link to read her whole story.

My Heroes Have Scars was written by Neil Cotter from New Jersey. Neil writes of these heroes, "They take the hard roads first, proving it CAN be done. They will show you HOW it can be done with what you have left. They will stand behind you, ready to catch you if you should fall. They will be along side you shouting, not whispering, encouragement for you to keep going. And they will always wait for you, no matter how long it takes."

Finding Sandra After Anoxic Brain Injury was written by Sandra Hardy of Key West, Florida. She says, "I don't remenber where I had therapy: to learn to walk and talk and the little things we do in life. I have three children who I had to get to know all over again. I didn't even remenber my father or mother."

A Mom's Story - The Journey was written by Roni Rumsey of Richland, Washington. Roni says, "I have been frustrated with the difficulty navigating the medical system as well as not being able to find answers to my questions."

I Have Gained So Much More Than I Lost - Helen's Story was written by Helen of Cleveland, Ohio. She begins a story that is very familiar to a lot of people, "On July 14, 2007, a man I had been dating for 3 weeks asked if I wanted to go for a ride on his motorcycle. He didn't tell me his tires were so worn he had an appointment the next day to have the tires replaced. So off we went for a ride." It's not that such an accident caused by bald tires is a familiar story; brain injuries that result from accidents are just that - from an accident. It's never expected.
