Brain injury rehabilitation facilities in Alaska, simply stated, is in planning. Despite Alaska's incidence of traumatic brain injury being 28% higher than the national average, little has been done to help survivors.
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services has established a Division of Behavioral Health’s Traumatic Brain Injury Project. It's mission is to develop and maintain an infrastructure that provides a service delivery system capable of meeting the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral treatment needs of TBI survivors throughout the state of Alaska.
There is a traumatic brain injury support group that meets at the Access Alaska office in Wasilla each week. For more information you can call them at 1-800-770-0228.
We strongly recommend that Alaskan families living with brain injury obtain a copy of Brain Injury Survivor's Guide.
